Masco Youth Football in conjunction with representatives from Boxford, Topsfield and Middleton (aka; the Tri-Town) have formed a Turf Committee which is coordinating fundraising efforts for the acquisition an installation of multi-purpose synthetic turf fields at Masconomet Regional Hight School located in Boxford, Massachusetts. The school services students from the Tri-Town in the 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th grades.
The proposed improvements will benefit more than just the high school programs. Countless youth organizations in the Tri-Town will also have access to the turf fields, which is very important based on the lack of fields and weather related issues in the Spring and Fall.
Installing a synthetic turf field will provide our student athletes a uniform and consistent playing surface. Turf will allow for more playing and practice time since the fields can be used daily and in all types of weather without the risk of damage.
An added benefit of the multi-purpose synthetic turf field would be a resilient underlayment, essentially a shock pad, under the sport surface. This not only provides uniform resilience that helps to extend the lifespan of the turf surface, but it has been brought to the attention of the Turf Committee that this layer is an important component in creating a safety plan as it pertains to concussion mitigation and management.
The Turf Committee has hired Huntress Associates of Tewksbury, MA to perform a feasibility and preliminary design study. Huntress Associates has estimated the cost of this project at $5,100,000.
The current design proposes the following:
